Description

A superb 18th-century scarificator, truly museum quality.  It is essentially a 13/8” cube. Not only is it a very beautifully decorated and early piece but it works: loads and fires as it should., The case is adjusted low and we haven’t tried to move it, so the blades barely show but they are all there. What presumably are a former owner’s initials are engraved on the top :”MP”. They appear to be post-production, as the quality of the monogram is nowhere as fine as the rest of the decoration. The double-headed  eagle suggests that it may have come out of the Hapsburg Empire during the 18th-century, with Vienna being a good candidate for the city in which it was produced.
