Description

An cased example of Snell’s ophthalmic Electro-Magnet. In superb condition but lacking one of its five ends or points.

Dr. Simeon Snell (1851-1909) was the first Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Sheffield’s Medical School and President of the British Medical Association–to name only two of his many achievements and honors. He pioneered the use of the electro-magnet in ophthalmic surgery and published a book on the topic: “The Electro-magnet and its employment in ophthalmic surgery” (1883).
