Description
A single draw brass telescope signed near the eye-piece, ‘Gilbert & Sons, London’. Also signed, ‘R. Rutt. Plymouth Dock’.
The telescope measures 20.5″ when closed and 28.5″ when fully open. It has a 28 mm double lens (flint & crown glass), unfortunately the rear lens has a crack through it. Objects can still be seen clearly despite the crack.
The original leather to the barrel has become distressed at one end.
Gilbert & Sons worked from 1806 – 1819.
