Description

We are offering  two anti-onanism devices that were certainly less brutal than the sharp-toothed spermatorrhea ring we also have up on Fleaglass.

These devices are rare but this pair is doubly rare because they were made for children or young adolescents, rather than older adolescent or adults, and they are solid silver. The fact that one of the two is for a female is also notable. There was much less concern in the medical literature of the period about female masturbation, hence relatively few devices were sold to prevent it.The much greater concern over male masturbation was driven by the believe that semen was a “vital fluid” whose wastage, through masturbation or nocturnal emission, posed both physical and pyschological dangers, including premature deathThe length of the male device is 3.75 inches or just under 10 cm.  We‘ve owned a small handful of such devices during the more than four decadewe‘ve been dealing in medical antiques, but those were all for the physically mature and fabricated from base metal. It should be noted that such devices were sold with belts or vests–see third image, which is taken from a c1905 Mathieu (Paris) catalog.
