Description

A rarely used (near mint) 2 1/2 inch OG dia., 4 draw refracting telescope, probably of French manufacture.

12 inches compressed, 48 inches long extended, comes with removable OG end cap, sliding protective cover to eyepiece, extendable ray/sun shade and found in it’s two part cylindrical, cloth covered card case (end caps replaced). Case measures 13 x 3 inches in dia.

ALL original bright golden lacquer intact, no dents or bruises, good optics (first draw for distance, first and second draw for close range viewing). 4 element internal system of optics. OG glass is perfect although not a flint/crown doublet. Leather on barrel shows NO signs of wear. Unsigned but from what I can glean, I would say the construction is French, late 19th century. Cumbersome to use due to length and weight (I used the 4th draw for balance which may explain the lack of wear on the leather). All in all, a very handsome piece that would add to any telescope collection due to condition alone !!
