This is a very unusual pocket hypodermic syringe, complete with its long and screwable protective cap, made a plain metal with a needle in gilded brass.
The instrument is signed “Mathieu”, so is French, datable circa 1860-1870.
The piston has no graduation, which is also quite unusual even for the early morphine or hypodermique syringe.
This synrige is close of the first form of the Pravaz synrige made by Charrière in 1853 and now preserved at the Medical History Museum at Lyon.
The little rarity measures 8,2cm lenght with it cap.
