A very rare 19th-century sign for a mesmerist: “PROF. MITCHELL MAGNETIC HEALER”**. Sand-ground tin with gilt lettering on a batten.Length 30” or 75 cms. Animal magnetism was another term for mesmerism, and Prof. Mitchell was a practitioner. We are offering three cased opthalmodyamometers ( aka tonometers) that were used for measuring ocular pressure to screen for glaucoma.
