Description

A sextant signed “Gambey Paris”, well preserved and complete with its box bearing a large retailer label, slightly later, by Bianchetti in Marseille.
The instrument can be dated around 1820-1830. Gambey was active until 1848.
The sextant is complete with its two mirrors (one a little worn), its seven filters, its two glasses, one of which has lenses that can integrate two lenses of different magnification, its two solar filters, its vernier, its silver limb, and its original key allowing to adjust the inclination of the mirrors. Finally, the handle is also in good condition.
The instrument measures 22×26 cm; the box 35x24x11cm.
Some rusts (visible in the photos) on the entire instrument but the condition is generaly ok.
 
Gambey sextants are not so common.
