Description

Signed on the first draw, ‘Gilbert & Gilkerson, Tower Hill, London. Best Improved’. The company worked from 1793 – 1809.

The telescope extends to 46″ (117 cm) and when closed, 14.5″ (37 cm) with a main lens diameter of just over 2″ (53 mm). It has an end cap and a sliding eye cover with a dark glass for sun viewing (not recommended)

The telescope gives a fine sharp image with a magnification of 30x. It also comes equipped with an astronomical eye-piece with a sun glass. This gives a magnification of 50x (with the lens erector removed).

The height to the top of the stand when mounted is 15″ (38 cm). The case and telescope are in very good condition with the original owners name fixed to the top.
