Description
A beautiful microscope made in France in the second half of the 19th century. It bears the serial number 6461, dating it to 1866-7. It retains much of its original gilt lacquer with age-related markings. Objective doesn’t has RMS thread. The mahogany case is well-preserved but lacks a key.
Edmund Hartnack (1826-1891) joined Oberhäuser, who made him a partner in 1854, and he took over the business in 1864. Due to the Franco-Prussian War of 1870, Hartnack had to leave France and continued his work in Potsdam.
