Description
A Paget Angle Sextant, by H. Hughes & Son, London in mahogany case.
The threaded wooden handle and sextant are held in a fitted mahogany wood box that is approximately 15 x18 cm.
The paget angle sextant, originally designed in 1892, is a very simple sextant meant for land survey use. It has two mirrors and a dial. The pointer on the dial is connected through a set of gears to the index mirror. By moving the pointer, the angle is set and directly read. It can measure either a ‘right’ or a ‘left’ angle which is an advantage.
