Description
A large and well equipped Gould/Cary simple and compound brass microscope in deep mahogany case 8 x6 x 3 inches.
Having 2 blackened and 2 Lieberkuhned objectives for use as a simple microscope and 5 numbered and stacking objectives (bead for number 1 lacking) for compound use, this microscope was obviously a special order. Signed Dollond, London in flowing script.
Near perfect condition noting loss of lacquer on the body tube from useage. The articulating upright screws into the brass ferrule of the lid (shrinkage crack) with flawless rack and pinion focussing. The stage has a B/W bone and live box insert. The mirror is near perfect. There are a pair of stage forceps on articulating arm and a stage bullseye. Two bone sliders with specimens intact. Blue velvet liner (Victorian) and below the main tray and additional pair of blank wooden glass slide holders.
The mahogany case has a functional lock (no key-working on it) and when mounted the microscope stands 14 inches tall. Very much like a down sized Jones Most Improved microscope without the folding legs.
