Description

Silver sundial signed “Le Febvre A Paris” dated circa 1680.

The upper face is engraved with three hour scales (two in Roman numerals and one in Arabic numerals) graduated from 4-12-8 and 5-12-7.

In the centre is a foliate decoration surmounted by the signature “Le Febvre A Paris”.

Mobile bird gnomon with foliate decoration, one side graduated for latitudes from 35 to 60 degrees.

On the lower part a compass marked with the four cardinal points and a Fleur de Lys. Blued steel needle with brass pivot, topped with a glass.

The back engraved with a list of twenty-one cities and their latitude, the gnomon spring decorated with foliage and the underside of the compass with a rosace of spiral acanthus leaves with pine cones.

Dial size: 6.7 cm x 5.9 cm.

Original black chagrin case, red velvet interior.

Made in Paris circa 1680.
