Description
Offered for sale is a vintage cased refractometer by Bellingham & Stanley dating to around the 1950s, or thereabouts. An Abbe refractometer is a scientific instrument that’s used to measure the refractive index of a liquid substance. The refractive index tells you how much light bends (or “refracts”) as it passes through that substance. This bending of light depends on the material’s density and composition.
This example is in great cosmetic condition and will provide an excellent display piece, or potentially usable subject to thorough inspection of the internal parts. As shown I have opened the part where liquid samples are introduced for measurement, although no testing has been carried out.
Comes with its own wooden box with lock & key and the following accessories:
– instructions
– thermometer
– spare glass element and adjusting key
– bottle of monobromonapthalene (high refractive index)
The item will be well packed for shipping.
Thanks for looking.
