An earthware retorts signed by Gilbert, Orleans. C 1870. In the Alchemy and early Chemistry used earthware vessel consisting of a spherical flask with a long spout, which is more than 90 degrees and so was reversed to a lower mouth ran. The retort was used for distillation: in the spout condensing vapour walked to the mouth the barrel out. Measurements: 25 x 14 x 19 cm high. A polychrome phrenology head most probably manufactured by Vasseur. Vasseur was originally a wax model maker in Paris second half of the 19th century. The phrenology section is divided into planes and marked with Roman numerals.
