Description

Impressive brass Gregorian astronomical telescope, 1790-1800
Library telescope on folding tripod base with two speculum metal mirrors, multi lens and sun filter eyepiece.
29″ long, the tube 25,3/4″ long, 4,1/4″ diameter, gross weight 8.8 kilos.
Primary mirror with central hole, held in place by the threaded cover fitted to the base of the barrel.
Focusing by threaded rod which moves the secondary mirror.
Knurled slide fitting full end cap with smaller threaded aperture cap
Dark patinated and original lacquered surface throughout.
Heavy gauge main body tube with no dents.
In very good sound condition throughout, no pitting or perishing of the brass.
Good original mirrors, lenses and filters.
The primary mirror has a small shell chip to the edge, mostly covered by one of the three mirror supports.
The sliding rail for the secondary mirror is part detached so currently the telescope does not function.
A good instrument restorer should put this right.
