A very fine and working 2 1/2 inch (6.5 cm.) brass and silvered equinoctial compass/sundial in original maroon card case with monthly time corrections in lid. c.1850

Although unsigned, it is of the highest quality and rarely used. Reminicent of the Steward workshop, instead of wheat ear demarcations, it uses a winding ivy decoration. Victorian combination of maroon card case with royal blue interior. Both hooks and hinge intact (case a little scuffed). The instrument itself has all of it’s original lacquer intact and 90% of it’s silvering to the hour ring and latitude (0-60 degrees) arc. 2 inch (5 cm.) compass has silvered dial with multiple cardinal points, points North, jewelled pivot point with locking tab on the side. Hinged with untouched screws to the bright brass interior, folding brass gnomen of decorative form. Case measures 8 x7 x 3 cm. deep.
